For a while I have been contemplating getting myself a 3D printer. After muling over it and researching various printers, I finally decided on one to go with. I decided to go with the UP! Plus printer from pp3dp.com. My biggest reason for picking this printer is the fact that it works out of the box and the software is very easy to use. And boy was it worth it to go for those features. I like to tinker around with this stuff as much as the next geek, but I just did not want to spend weeks building and configuring a printer from a kit. In the future I will probably print out parts for one of the RepRap printers.
About 30 minutes after un-packing it, I had it connected to my computer and prepping for my first print.
And finally the end results of my first 2 prints. The companion cube on the left was printed with a poorly made 3D model. The cube on the left was printed with a good model.
To further test my printer, I decided to print out a Penrose Triangle. No it is not photoshopped! It is just a really good optical illusion.
Well, that was my first day of printing. I have had my printer for a couple days now and I have been printing out random things and re-calibrating it as needed. I’ve been having some lift issues with bigger prints, but hopefully I have that corrected now.
Expect me to make full use of the printer to help me in my props. The first candidate will be Asuna’s Light Lambert sword from Sword Art Online.
